The 10th edition of Indian Premier League is approaching to a closure. The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a professional Tewnty20 cricket league in India contested during April and May of every year by franchise teams representing Indian Cities. The IPL changed the way cricket is played in India and has brought in huge scope for the entertainment industry as well. Initialized by the then BCCI vice-president Lalit Modi, the IPL was launched in 2008 as competitive response to the Indian Cricket League (ICL). IPL Winners List from 2008 to 2016
- IPL 2008 Winner – Rajasthan Royals
The 2008 Indian Premier League was the debut season of the Indian Premier League. The season Commenced on 18th April 2008 with the final match held on 1 June 2008. The competition started with a double round robin group stage, in which each of the 8 teams played a home match and an away match against every other team. These matches were followed by two semi-finals and a final. Rajasthan Royals defeated Chennai Super Kings in the final to won the title.
- IPL 2009 Winner – Deccan Chargers
The 2009 Indian Premier League season or IPL season 2, was the second season of Indian Premier League. The Government of India refused to commit security by Indian Paramilitary forces. As a result The Tournament was hosted by South Africa and was played between 18th April and 24th May 2009. The tournament was won by Deccan Chargers against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
- IPL 2010 Winner – Chennai Super Kings
The 2010 Indian Premier League was the third season of Indian Premier League. It was played between 12th March and 25th April 2010. It was the first ever cricket tournament that was broadcast live on YouTube. The tournament was won by Chennai Super Kings, who defeated Mumbai Indians in the final played at Mumbai. The Orange cap and the player of the tournament were awarded to Sachin Tendulkar of the Mumbai Indians, while the Purple cap went to Pragyan Ojha of Deccan Chargers.
- IPL 2011 Winner – Chennai Super Kings
The 2011 Indian Premier League was the third season of Indian Premier League. It was played between 8th April and 28th May 2011. This season the number of teams in the league went from 8 to 10 with the addition of Pune Warriors India and the Kochi Tuskers Kerala. The tournament was won by Chennai Super Kings for the second successive season, defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 58 runs in the final in Chennai.
- IPL 2012 Winner – Kolkata Knight Riders
The 2012 Indian Premier League was the fourth season of Indian Premier League. The tournament began on 4th April and ended on 27th May 2012. Kolkata Knight Riders won the title, beating defending Champions Chennai Super Kings by 5 wickets in the final. This season the number of teams reduced to 9 from 10 by the termination of Kochi Tuskers Kerala.
- IPL 2013 Winner – Mumbai Indians
The 2013 Indian Premier League or the IPL season 6 was the 6th season of Indian Premier League. The tournament held from 3rd April to 26th May 2013. Mumbai Indians won the tournament for the first time, defeating Chennai Super Kings in the final by 23 runs.
- IPL 2014 Winner – Kolkata Knight Riders
The 2014 Indian Premier League or the IPL season 7 was the 7th season of the Indian Premier League. The tournament featured eight teams after the withdrawal of Pune Warriors India and was held from 16th April 2014 to 1st June 2014. The opening 20 matches held in UAE at three different stadiums in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah due to General elections in India. Kolkata Knight Riders won the tournament, defeating Kings XI Punjab by 3 wickets in final.
- IPL 2015 Winner – Mumbai Indians
The 2015 Indian Premier League or the IPL season 8 was the 8th season of Indian Premier League. The tournament featured 8 teams and held from 8 April 2015 to 24 May 2015. The tournament’s opening ceremony held at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on 7 April 2015. Mumbai Indians won the tournament for the second time by defeating Chennai Super Kings by 41 runs.
- IPL 2016 Winner – Sunrisers Hyderabad
The 2016 Indian Premier League or the IPL Season 9 was the 9th season of Indian Premier League. The tournament began on 9 April 2016 and concluded on 29 May 2016. The title won by Sunrisers Hyderabad against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Virat Kohli of Royal Challengers Bangalore was the leading run getter with 973 runs and Bhuvneshwar Kumar of Sunrisers Hyderabad was the leading wicket taker of the season with 23 wickets.
