ICC Champions Trophy 2017: Dinesh Karthik replaces injured Manish Pandey
Senior Tamil Nadu Wicket-keeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik o Thursday earned a recall to the Indian cricket team for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2017 after Manish Pandey was ruled out due to a side-strain.
Karthik was one of the five stand-byes and has been rewarded for his stupendous form in the domestic cricket last season. Karthik, who will soon celebrating his 32nd birthday, scored 607 runs in Vijay Hazare Tropy Campaign, including a century in the final. His average was 86 plus and scored the runs at a strike rate of over 100.
He has also scored 704 runs in the Ranji Trophy and another 361 runs in IPL 10, capping off a consistent domestic season. He last played for India against Afghanistan in the 2014 Asia Cup in Bangladesh.
Ravi among Umpires for Champions Trophy 2017
India’s Sundaram Ravi has been appointed one of the on-field umpires for the opening match of Champions Trophy beginning June 1. Chris Broad, David Boon and Andy Pycroft of the Emirates Elite panel of ICC match referees will officiate in the Champions Trophy 2017 tournament while the umpiring responsibilities will be shared between all the 12 umpires, namely: Aleem Dar, Kumar Dharmsena, Marais Erasmus, Chris Gaffaney, Ian Gould, Richard Illingworth, Richard Kettleborough, Nidel Llong, Bruce Oxenford, Ravi, Paul Reiffel and Rod Tucker.
